The Watch
The clock in the dashboard of the Mercedes-Benz 230 SL was made by VDO Adolf Schindling AG, founded in 1929. ("VDO") developed in industrial design strongly influenced by the BAUHAUS school. In the 1960s, VDO was a leading supplier to the automotive industry. In 1991 the company was sold. Today, important areas belong to Continental AG.
(TRIVIA: The famous Swiss watch manufacturers IWC and Jaeger-LeCoultre were temporarily part of the VDO group).

Several goals were pursued when developing the PAGODE watch:
- the watch should follow the design of the clock in the dashboard of the "Pagoda" as closely as possible
- the watch should be authentic. That is why the PAGODE watch is manually wound, because in 1963 quartz and automatic movements were not yet available or only very limited available.
- the PAGODE watch should be flat. With a thickness of 9.9mm, this goal is achieved.
- because the original clock in the dashboard has no seconds hand and no date display, the PAGODE watch does not have these functions either.
- like the W113 series from Mercedes-Benz, the PAGODE watch is "MADE IN GERMANY"
