The Car

The car
PAGODE is the nickname of the sports car series presented by Daimler-Benz at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show with the works designation W 113.
The range includes the Mercedes-Benz 230SL, launched in 1963, and the 250SL and 280SL added in 1967.
A total of 49,912 units of the 113 series were produced between 1963 and 1971. 19,440 were sold in the USA and there mainly in California. It is much more difficult to determine the number of Pagodas that are still registered and "on the road".
If one takes the figures of the KBA as a basis, then about 4000 "pagodas" are registered in Germany. This suggests that between 30-50% of the W113s sold have "survived". Nearly 60 years after its introduction, this is an astonishing figure. All experts seem to agree that no Pagoda will be scrapped. No matter in what state she's in. Even total scrap cars still achieve prices around 10,000 EURO. In Germany, the official stock figures have even risen slightly in recent years.
